I can view them on photoshop and if I open the file director in photoshop and correct click I tin can striking view in photos and it volition load. However if I get straight to photos and open that file it says DSC(INSERT NUMBER).NEF This file format can't be opened. Anyone know how to fix this? I installed the latest codec from Nikon is in that location anything else I can do?

There is nothing wrong with your reckoner. NEF files are non actually a "picture" that people can see every bit a movie.
When Photoshop or some other editing software displays an image, you are actually looking at a JPEG, and that is something that the software does so y'all can run into information technology as a picture.

Right Click on one of the NEF files, Choose Default Plan and and then choose Photoshop or any. This will make it open with information technology past Default.
Opening in Photoshop is very wearisome for just browsing. I employ Google'southward Picasa software only because it has a crazy fast photo viewer.

I can see mine (.NEF) just fine through Windows viii.1 File Manager. I even get some of the EXIF nether "Properties" when I right-click. I don't take a default awarding/program registered to NEF but I get the choice to open with LR. I have ViewNX2 installed, and then maybe that is why I tin can see them.

There is a .JPEG image file inside of every Nikon .NEF....at that place's GOT to be a way to browse them, by making Windows 8.i "enlightened" of what application can view that embedded .JPEG image.

If you've got Photoshop, yous've got Bridge and that will bring up the .nef files very quickly and pop them into PS or piece of work PS magic on them. I'thousand a fleck of a minimalist in that Bridge and Photoshop will practice it all so why load upwards the pc with all the little add-ons and gadgets? (Us old retired guys are allowed to do stuff like that!!)
